I Survived More Smart Cars

Oct 5th, 2008 by Chris

I knew it was only going to get worse before it got better.

So here’s a little back story about this past week:
Monday I woke up at 3:30 am to drive to the airport in Huston to make our 6:00 flight back to Miami. I managed to pass out for about an hour and a half after the wedding, but I was feeling the effects of the entire weekend catch-up with me. I slept little to nothing on the plane and by this time a certain sickness (which I assume was the common cold) had set-in. Either way I arrived in Miami at around 9:00am EST and I was in the office by 10:30. Still running on roughly 2 hours of sleep.

I won’t bore you wih details, but the entire week was a challenge for me to get my work all caught-up, take care of everything that needed to get done that week (since my boss was on vacation in Hawaii), and catch up on all the sleep I missed. I had installations every day of the week, except for Friday, and combine with the sickness I was not feeling great by any means.

Wednesday was pretty much the climax of the week because one of our customers wanted to bring TWO Smart Cars from the fleet to get as much done as possible. I only had time to pre-cut the vinyl for one car at this point so I had to keep running into the store re-loading the plotter with the new vinyl for the second car they brought. I was outside in the heat pretty much all day applying vinyl. It’s fun, but the toll it took on me was significant.

I got it all done though. That’s on thing I can say with confidence is that I can get shit done. It took about Six straight hours of dedication, no lunch break (or any break really), and a lot of sweat, but both cars were wrapped and ready to go by 3:30pm. I had also installed one Smart Car the day I was leaving to Texas so that makes 5/6 of the cars in the fleet done. One to go! You can see the photos of the complete vehicle here.

Luckily my installation on Thursday was indoors and in an airconditioned environment mounting acrylic letters on an AT&T store wall and by Friday I had accomplished 90% of what i set out to do during the week so I had time to dedicate to some longterm projects that had been put on the back burner.

My job continues to be rewarding and constantly presents a different challenge so it remains exciting from day to day. I’m just glad I was able to relax this weekend for a change. Now I’m ready for whatever comes next!
