Transformers review (no spoilers)
Jul 1st, 2007 by Chris
So I had the opportunity to watch the new Transformers movie yesterday. How? Well let’s just say a guy I know, knows a guy, that manage to get his hands on a copy of the movie after it went through the pre-screening in L.A. (apparently film students are more resourceful in finding stuff like this than I am).
In any case I felt compelled to mention that this movie is beyond amazing on several levels. I usually walk into movies like this trying to avoid the hype, but how can you not be excited to see this movie? It really is the biggest movie of the year.
The story is actually what surprised me the most. If you followed the cartoon or comic book you’ll be please to find that the story revolves around the Energon Cubes which only adds to the over-all bad-assness of this movie. The acting is great throughout ( hearing Peter Cullen as the voice of Optimus Prime is just nostalgic). The worst actor in the movie is Megan Fox, but she’s hot so I got over it quickly, and Shia LaBeouf has been my hero since he started on Even Stevens (my favorite show to ever grace the Disney Channel).
As far as the action is concerned: HOLY SHIT. First of all, the previews don’t show a fraction of the action contained in this film. Some of the battle scenes will blow you away. ILM pulled out all of the stops while working on this movie. I read that each robot has over 10,000 moving parts and I’m pretty sure you see them all moving when they transform (the classic transforming sound is still there!). Each machine looks as real as the actors they share the screen with.
In my opinion there are some things they could have done differently as I’m sure most people will agree with, but I just sat back and enjoyed the movie for what it was.
Maybe I’m biased because I grew up watching the cartoons and bugging my parents to buy me all of the action figures, and I don’t want to add to all of the hype that everyone has already been exposed to, but I loved this movie and I think it’s something that everyone can enjoy. If anything, it’s a really fun movie to watch and definitely entertaining.

now all we need is a a new bad ass GI Joe Movie, and the holy trinity of classic cartoons will be complete (Ninja Turtles, Transformers and GI Joe)
Thundercats and He Man are already underway too >.>
