Mad Scientist
Jun 2nd, 2008 by Chris

The Beast himself commissioned by none other than The Mayor herself. Drawn on 11×14 Bristol Board. As with most of my work, I started out with a loose sketch blocking in the major shapes and then going wild with a brush pen and black in. Several markers were used to add different values and colored pencils were used to add some light color. Then I combined some water color over the coloerd pencil to wash it out a little. A white out pen was used to bing some of the highlights back through and I finished it off with a toothbrush and white ink to give some of the edges a diffused look.
Took a while to finish because I had to let it sit and dry between each application, but I’m happy with the way it turned out. I tried to do something different with the character. Normally he’s depicted showing off his agility in some action pose or his intelligence in a lab. The mayor specified that he HAD to be wearing a lab coat. I wanted to show a more primitive animal side. The original illustration is hanging on a wall in my room.
